29TH BILL DEGNAN "FAITH IN HUMAN SPIRIT" 5K & Kid's 6/7 Races (SS Summer Series #3)

Join the Seashore Striders for an oldie but goodie- The Bill Degnan 5k.   The 3rd event in the popular Seashore Strider Championship Series, this year's Bill Degnan 5k will be held on the Cape Henlopen High School Campus.   The Bill Degnan 5k is a flat & fast course through the campus on a mix of track, road and grass named in honor of the late Bill Degnan, coach, teacher & friend at Cape Henlopen.

RACE LOCATION

• Cape Henlopen High School, 1170 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE

 

 

RACE TIME:  5k Race Time is 7:30 am with the Kid's 6/7 Races as soon after the final 5k finisher at approximately. 8:45am-9:00am

(Kid's that are participating in the 6/7 races should arrive by 8:30 am...Please be careful arriving and walking to the track as the 5k race will still be in session.)                                                                                          

 

KID's 6/7 Races...The "6-7" (six-seven) craze is a viral TikTok trend originating from a video edit by NBA player LaMelo Ball, referencing his height (6'7") set to a rap song by Skrilla. The innocuous, catchy audio has become a popular, non-harmful trend among youth and has even been adopted by school staff to build rapport with students.  
Key Details About the 6-7 Trend:
Origin: Started after Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball posted a TikTok edit featuring a rap song by artist Skrilla.
Meaning: The phrase refers to a height of six feet, seven inches.
Trend Behavior: Children and teenagers repeat the phrase "six-seven" to the tune of the song, often in schools, sayeducators and news reports.
Significance: Educators like those at Emory H. Markle Middle School in Pennsylvania use it to connect with students, viewing it as a harmless way to build camaraderie.Context: Unlike many viral trends, this one has no hidden harmful, sexual, or negative meaning.

$40.00 "Last Chance" Race-Day Registration Registration will open at 6:00 am and will close at 7:15 am 

• Registration will be done online through runsignup.   All participants registered by Monday, June 1st will be guaranteed a t-shirt, while registrations received after June 1st are "first come"

RACE COURSE

• The course will leave CHHS Track & Field Stadium and loop the campus basically twice before entering the stadium and finishing in the same location.  The course is a mixture of road, grass & track surface.

• THE FOLLOWING ARE NOT ALLOWED IN A SEASHORE STRIDER EVENT...THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION FOR THE SAFETY OF ALL PARTICIPANTS...RD TIM-SS
• • BIKES ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BE ON THE COURSE RIDING ALONG/PACING ANY REGISTERED RUNNER
  • BANDITS (NON REGISTERED) RUNNERS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BE IN THE RACE RUNNING ALONG/PACING ANY REGISTERED RUNNER
  • HEADPHONES/EAR PODS ARE DISCOURAGED WEARING IN BOTH EARS DUE TO SAFETY OF HEARING TRAFFIC
    • THIS IS A TOUGH RULE TO ENFORCE AS 85% OF RUNNERS IN RACES LISTEN TO MUSIC AND THE RRCA RECOGNIZED THAT AND MOVED THE ENFORCEMENT FROM A DISQUALIFICATION TO MAKING IT THE RACE DIRECTORS DECISION.   MOST RACE DIRECTORS IN THE COUNTRY EITHER IGNORE THE ISSUE OR TRY TO WORK WITH THE RUNNERS.   MY STAND AS A RACE DIRECTOR IS TO ASK YOU TO NOT WEAR THEM AND IF YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST THEN ONLY WEAR THEM IN ONE EAR AND AT A LOW VOLUME LEVEL. 
       

 

RACE TIMING

• Timing will be done by the Seashore Strider Event Production team and will be using the Chronotrack B Chip system.  

 

RACE AMENITIES

• Finish line produced by “Seashore Strider Event Production, Inc.,” Post-Race awards ceremony within 20 minutes following the final finisher.

 

 

AWARDS  

• Awards will be presented to the Overall Male & Female Champions, Overall Male & Female Masters (40+ yrs.), as well as the top three (3) Male & Female finishers in the following age categories: 9 & under, 10-13, 14-19, 20-24, then 5-year age groups through 80+.   Awards will be presented within 20 minutes following the final runner crossing the finish.

 

 

REFUNDS/DEFERRAL  

• The Seashore Striders have a "No Refund" policy, however we make every possible attempt to please our client with the following options:  1. Transfer to a future Seashore Strider owned event of equal value before the end of the current year.   2. Donate your entry fee to the charity associated with the event or to the Seashore Strider Youth Running program.  3. Transfer/Defer to the following year at the same event.  Thank You for your cooperation & understanding as some situations are beyond the control of the Seashore Striders.
