Our Inspiration: Heritage, History, and the South Bay A Legacy Reborn at the Bayfront We are proud to bring high-level racing back to the Chula Vista Bayfront—a location with deep roots in distance running history. In the 1990s, this very ground hosted the prestigious Arturo Barrios Invitational, honoring one of the greatest long-distance runners of all time.
Arturo Barrios Flores, a renowned Mexican-American runner and two-time Olympian (1988, 1992), famously set world records in the 10,000 meters (27:08.23) and the one-hour run. By hosting 5inco de Miles here, we aim to revitalize the South Bay racing scene and honor the distinguished legacy Barrios left behind in our community.
La Batalla de las Millas Inspired by Mexican heritage and the spirit of the Battle of Puebla, La Batalla de las Millas (The Battle of the Miles) is more than just a race. It is a celebration of resilience and culture.
We’ve designed this event to blend competition and community into a unique Cinco de Mayo experience. Whether you are sprinting for a personal best or walking with your pup, we believe that every mile deserves to be celebrated.
