Lace up your running/walking shoes and join us for our first annual Flight of the Heron 5k and 1 Mile Fun Run at Blue Heron Homecoming! Our 5k Run/Walk is perfect for runners of all levels and a unique way to experience the Water Reclamation Facility which is usually closed to the public.

This is a family friendly event on a paved path and at the Finish Line you will receive a medal, hat and end in a fantastic Beer Garden presented by Missing Falls Brewery. This event takes place during the Blue Heron Homecoming, so after the race, come over, grab a snack and learn about all that Akron Waterways Renewed! has accomplished in keeping our river clean for generations to come! After the race there is a Beer Garden Presented by Missing Falls. At the Blue Heron Festival there is lunch provided by The Ice Bucket Food Truck. When: October 11, 2025 Place: Reclamation Facility - 2460 Akron Peninsula Rd in the Valley Start Time: Registration 9:00 am Race 10:00 am Registration: Awards: Every registrant receives a medal and a hat. This is while supplies last! Notes: The course is paved and inside the Water Reclamation Facility. This is a working facility so please keep the course and make sure to not enter the marked off areas for your own safety. Parking is now on-site! Enter the South Entrance off of Akron Peninsula Rd and parking will be specifically marked for 5K participants. Strollers are welcome but please no dogs. Children 5 and under are free.
