The Lobo Aquathlons offer a unique run-swim challenge for adults and kids on the University of New Mexico campus in Albuquerque. Due to campus construction, the 2026 event features a reverse aquathon format: a 2-mile run followed by a 400m swim. This event is a wonderful way to support the UNM Health, Exercise and Sports Sciences Youth Camp and Graduate Student Travel, as all proceeds directly benefit these programs. Prepare for a grounded, community-focused event with options for training and awards.

What to expect

• Participate in a reverse aquathon: a 2-mile run followed by a 400m swim.
• Kids race on Saturday, adults on Sunday, both starting at 8 AM.
• All finishers receive a medal, with age group awards also presented.

We're back for 2026!

Kids Race Saturday, April 18, 8 am start time, will run in waves

Adults Race Sunday, April 19, 8 am start time

We're doing things a little different this year, however. With all of the construction on campus, we're not sure if and when the roads will be ready, and we don't know what condition they'll be in. We've been waiting for an update, but since we need to get registration started, we've decided to have an AQUATHON for 2026! We've decided to have the Kids race an AQUATHON as well. Since it will be April, and weather could be a factor, we will continue our "reverse" order (run, then swim). The adult run course will be shorter, but the swim will be the same. We're keeping the athena, clydesdale and team categories.

All course maps updated and posted on Course Map page Adult course: 2 mile run (1 lap, new course), 400 m swim (8 lengths). Finishers medals for ALL participants! Brought to us by our faithful participants The Ellers! Age group awards! 12 week training program available with an optional pre/post program physical fitness evaluation through the UNM Exercise Physiology Lab Registration COMING SOON Please note that there are separate registrations for the Race, the Training Program and the optional physical fitness evaluation.

Run is around the University of New Mexico (UNM) Campus (Redondo), followed by swimming in the UNM Seidler Natatorium.

All proceeds benefit the UNM Health, Exercise and Sports Sciences (HESS) Youth Camp and Graduate Student Travel. No refunds. Unclaimed entries will be considered donations. Improper usage of the UNM Staff & Faculty, or UNM/CNM student pricing will result in reservation cancelation without refund.
