Embark on a virtual 5000-mile challenge to support the Mustang Discovery Trail, logging miles by foot or horse power and earning a chance for your name on a commemorative plaque.
The vibe (AI-assisted text)
This isn't your typical weekend 5K; it's an epic virtual journey designed for those with serious endurance and a passion for conservation. You'll be joining a community dedicated to raising awareness for the Mustang Discovery Trail and the American Discovery Trail. The energy here is about sustained effort, personal challenge, and a shared love for these incredible routes and the wild horses they represent. Participants are likely self-motivated individuals, often with a background in ultra-endurance or equestrian sports, looking for a unique long-term goal.
Race day (AI-assisted text)
As a virtual event, there's no traditional race day packet pickup or start line crowds. Your 'race day' is every day you log miles, whether on foot or with your horse, tracking your progress against the monumental 5000-mile goal. The focus is entirely on self-discipline and consistent effort over a prolonged period, connecting with the spirit of the trails from wherever you are. You'll be part of a larger, ongoing narrative, contributing to a cause rather than competing head-to-head on a single day.
Best for (AI-assisted text)
This challenge is perfect for ultra-endurance athletes, long-distance hikers, or equestrians seeking an extraordinary virtual goal. It's also ideal for anyone deeply committed to supporting wild mustang conservation and promoting awareness of America's long-distance trails.
Personality (AI-assisted text)
The event carries a spirit of grand adventure and deep commitment, blending personal athletic ambition with a significant cause. It's about the quiet, persistent grind of logging miles, fueled by a connection to the wild and a desire to make a difference. There's a strong sense of community among those tackling such a massive undertaking, even if physically dispersed. It's less about fleeting glory and more about the enduring journey and its impact.
Weather snapshot (AI-assisted text)
Since this is a virtual challenge, your 'race day' weather will simply be whatever you encounter during your personal training and mileage logging. Participants will experience a full range of seasons and conditions over the course of 5000 miles, making adaptability key. Plan your own routes and times to best suit your local climate and comfort.
Terrain & course feel (AI-assisted text)
As a virtual event, the terrain you cover is entirely up to you, reflecting your local environment and training preferences. You might be logging miles on roads, local trails, treadmills, or even in an arena if you're riding a horse. The challenge is about the cumulative distance, not a specific course, so you choose your own adventure.

Mustang Discovery Trail 5000 Mile Challenge is a virtual event hosted by Endurance Horse Podcast & WARHORSE Endurance running in conjunction with and as a compliment to the journey of the Mustang Discovery Ride
It is the goal of the Mustang Discovery Trail 5000 Mile Challenge to not only raise awareness of Mustang Discovery Trail and the American Discovery Trail, though also to do so in a way that is unique to WARHORSE Endurance & that is to include you along for this journey as you log the miles on your own horse or on your own leg power. You can also find out more about joining the journey on trail by meeting up with them along the way for a donation of any amount.
As a bonus thank you- The first 250 participants to register will have their names engraved on two plaques. One to be on display at the Mustang Heritage Foundation Headquarters and one to be on display at the American Discovery Trail headquarters. The first 250 participants to sign up will also have their names in the end credits of the documentary being created by Mustang Discovery.
Mustang Discovery Trail 5000 Mile Challenge is also fundraiser for Mustang Discovery.
Your Challenge at Your Pace
You decide, ride as little as one mile at a time or divided the mileage into three days per week or a few short rides during the week followed by a few extra miles of adventure on the weekend. The idea is motivation and momentum in a goal for you and your horse to achieve your milestone of 5000 miles. *There is no time limit to reaching this goal* take as long as you need. You set your pace, the days, the miles and if you aim for 25 per week you will be finding yourself at 100 miles by the end of the month! Or you can add up the miles over several weeks! You decide what is right for you and your horse to create those 5000 miles of memories with together.

WHAT DO I RECEIVE FOR COMPLETION?
You will receive a beautiful, custom made for this event medal, embroidered patch and a pin to commemorate your miles, your support for the trail and the Mustang Discovery Foundation. You will receive the awards before you reach the 5000 miles you have achieved with your horse or run/walking on your own, though it maybe a few months after sign up. WHAT MILES COUNT?
We are happy to say that this motivational challenge is open to riders, carriage drivers, those walking with their horses! And it is also open to hikers, runners and cyclists! We even have had someone roller blading the miles.
CAN I USE MORE THAN ONE HORSE?
The answer is YES! Though you only get the one medal and one patch per sign up! We are creating this Challenge to encourage each other and set goals in measurable mile increments.
CAN I COMBINE MY PERSONAL RUNNING MILES WITH RIDING MILES TO REACH 5000 MILE GOAL FASTER?
What do you want the medal to signify to you? If you would like the medal to symbolize all of your miles with one horse, then you count just the miles with one horse. Would you like it to symbolize how many active miles you had then you can absolutely count run/walk/ride miles all together.
DOES ARENA RIDING COUNT?
Yes, if you are riding in a standard to large arena.
WHAT IF I AM NOT IN THE USA? CAN I STILL I AND GET THE MEDAL?
The cost of this challenge includes shipping of the medal to USA only. If you are outside of the USA you will be mailed the embroiled patch only. Though you can request to have the medal shipped outside of the USA at your cost.
For international participants we mail an embroidered patch of the same size and design of the medal. Thank you for understanding that if I paid for the international shipping it would cost me far more than what the sign up fee is and I cannot do that. Due to some unpaid international shipping, shipping of outside of USA requestedmedals will not be shipped unless the invoice for shipping is paid ahead quickly.
