West Michigan Latino Health 5k Walk/Run

Purpose

With a focus on health and wellness promotion, the West Michigan Hispanic Chamber of Commerce held its first Annual Latino Health 5K Run/Walk in September of 2015. The goal was to encourage Hispanic families to maintain a healthy lifestyle and incorporate physical activity, such as running or walking, into their daily lives. 

The WMHCC believes that by showcasing the fun side of physical activity through a family-oriented 5K walk and run, participants can feel energized and prepared to continue striving toward better overall community health. The run/walk begins and finishes at Roosevelt Park where we will have our Finish Fest. Food, free kids activities and awards ceremony until 12pm.

While the event is geared towards the Latino community, all of West Michigan is invited to support the endeavor to promote healthy habits and balanced lifestyles.

 

Where
This walk/run starts and finishes at Roosevelt Park. The walk/run starts at 9:00 am.

 

Why
A Health and Wellness promotion with focus on the Hispanic community that has higher instances of obesity, diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, and strokes.  The reason for highest amount of chronic diseases in the Hispanic community has been attributed to poor diets and lack of physical activity.

Volunteer Opportunities
We offer a variety of volunteer positions and time slots. Shirts and food are given to volunteers at the event.  

 

Race Shirts
Register by August 7, 2026 at midnight to guarantee your race shirt. Participants that register on or after August 8, 2026 are not guaranteed a shirt, available while supplies last. Shirts are not guaranteed for racers that are not present for the event. Participants 13 and up will receive a shirt. Participants 12 and under may purchase a shirt and will receive a finishing medal.

Race Day 
registration/pick-up starting at 7:00am,  Roosevelt Park 739 Van Raalte SW, Grand Rapids, MI 49503.
*Participants must be present to receive bib at packet pick up.

 

Please Note
• Walking the course is welcomed, but participants must complete the route within 90 minutes.
• Weather conditions vary from year to year, so dress appropriately.
• In case of severe weather, event directors reserve the right to cancel without refund.

El propósito es promover la actividad física y el bienestar en la comunidad hispana como un medio para mejorar la salud y fomentar la comunidad, 

 

Dónde
Esta caminata/carrera comienza y termina en Roosevelt Park. La caminata/carrera comienza a las 9:00 am.

 

Por qué
Una promoción de Salud y Bienestar con enfoque en la comunidad hispana que tiene mayores índices de obesidad, diabetes, hipertensión, colesterol alto y accidentes cerebrovasculares.  La razón de la mayor cantidad de enfermedades crónicas en la comunidad hispana se ha atribuido a la mala alimentación y la falta de actividad física.

Oportunidades de voluntariado
Ofrecemos una variedad de puestos de voluntariado y franjas horarias. Se entregan camisetas y comida a los voluntarios en el evento. Los voluntarios deben poder asistir a una capacitación de Zoom la semana del evento (por determinar). Visite este enlace para ver la información y el registro de voluntarios.  

 

Camisetas de carrera
Regístrese antes del 7 de agosto de 2026 a la medianoche para garantizar su camiseta de carrera. Los participantes que se registren a partir del 8 de agosto de 2026 no tienen garantizada una camiseta, disponible hasta agotar existencias. Las camisetas no están garantizadas para los corredores que no estén presentes en el evento. Los participantes de 13 años en adelante recibirán una camiseta. Los participantes menores de 12 años podrán comprar una camiseta y recibirán una medalla final. 

 

Recogida de paquetes

*Los participantes deben estar presentes para recibir el dorsal en el momento de la recogida del paquete.

 

Tenga en cuenta
• Se invita a recorrer el recorrido a pie, pero los participantes deben completar la ruta en un plazo de 90 minutos.
• Las condiciones climáticas varían de un año a otro, así que vístase apropiadamente.
• En caso de mal tiempo, los directores del evento se reservan el derecho de cancelar sin reembolso.
